Derby-based Protrade has celebrated hitting 50 years in business. Founded in the garage of their family’s Draycott home by Rob and Isobel Sanders in 1973, it has grown to become one of the UK’s leading suppliers of premium power tools and accessories with five depots across the East Midlands.

The latest figures from the Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) have shown the total value sales from Britain’s Builders’ Merchants climbed +7.6% quarter-on-quarter in Q2 2023 compared to Q1. Growth came from stronger volumes (+11.3%). Like-for-like sales were +14.8% higher in Q2 than Q1.

Atlas Copco Group has begun construction of a new manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Pune, India. The new 25,000 m2 facility is planned to be completed by Q2, 2024. It will generate additional employment for over 200 people and add production capacity.

MacDermid Enthone Industrial Solutions, a manufacturer of chemical compounds used in surface coating applications, announced it will open a second facility in Japan to serve the automotive industry. The laboratory will be located in Nagoya.

Bosch Power Tools plans to acquire nearly 50% shares of the FerRobotics Compliant Robot Technology GmbH, a provider of contact-sensitive automation. FerRobotics currently employs 50 associates and is expecting sales in the double-digit millions range for the current fiscal year. The shareholding is subject to approval by the antitrust authorities.

Paint and wood coatings producer, PT Mowilex Indonesia (Mowilex), is partnering with Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, the National Carpentry Council, and the Vocational Training Centre on a three-year program to certify highly qualified Tukang (craftsmen). The program will train 210 low-income participants from Indonesia's Tangerang Regency over 10 days.
