A Perry's Latest Eco Achievements
A Perry has won awards for its sustainability initiatives, but the family business is continuing to make further changes to improve energy consumption, reduce waste and minimise its impact on the environment. Take a look at some of the steps it has taken in the past year.
As a fourth-generation family business, A. Perry, manufacturer and distributor of agricultural and architectural hardware, has implemented a number of environmental initiatives over the past 12 months. Recognising the urgent need for businesses to address its environmental impact, A. Perry first launched its Eco Initiative in 2020, earning multiple sustainability awards and setting a precedent for eco-conscious practices within the industry. As a result of this initiative Perry’s has made fundamental changes to its business to significantly reduce its waste output and energy consumption.

The power of solar
Perry’s has taken a leap towards energy sustainability with the installation of 300 solar panels atop its office and factory in Cradley Heath, West Midlands. Partnering with Energy Gain UK Ltd, specialists in renewable technologies, the solar panel installation propels Perry’s towards nearly complete self-sufficiency in energy generation, significantly reducing reliance on the grid.
"The installation of these solar panels reflects our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint and fostering a greener future,” comments Guy Perry, Managing Director at A. Perry. “We are not only transforming our energy consumption but also inspiring positive change within our industry."
This milestone builds on the company's commitment to sustainable energy, having already slashed overall energy usage by over 30% since October 2021 through various means, such as upgrading to LED lighting company wide and the implementation of PIR sensors across offices, warehouses, and their robotics facilities, contributing to a 60-tonne carbon reduction, representing 70% of total carbon emissions.

Revolutionising packaging with Perry Fixings
In 2023, A. Perry introduced Perry Fixings – a comprehensive range of Fixings and Fasteners in 100% plastic-free and sustainable packaging. Departing from the industry norm of plastic clams and poly bags, Perry Fixings opts for environmentally conscious hangable handy-size boxes adorned with clear, informative labels.

The range has been developed with key customers in the agricultural sector and is designed to meet the unique needs of the market, which requires heavy-duty fasteners that can withstand the toughest conditions. The range includes hundreds of new items, such as Timber fixings, Roofing Bolts and Screws, Engineering Fasteners, Masonry Fixings, and re-packaged Nails.

Ian Hedden, Product Manager at Mole Valley Farmers, emphasised the significance of the sustainable packaging, stating: "The commitment of A. Perry to the development of the eco-friendly packaging in the range is commendable. The visual impact of this new packaging and the transition from traditional plastic packaging to these innovative, sustainable boxes offers space saving for fixings and potential for range expansion. This not only aligns with our environmental values but also demonstrates a proactive approach to reducing plastic waste.”
