Sustainability has been practiced for many years at Lederer as the company undertakes a number of initiatives to accept responsibility and act in ways that aren’t detrimental to the environment.
At Lederer, sustainability, energy transition and climate protection are not just written words but have been practiced for many years.
The material from which our core range of fasteners is made is sustainable in itself: stainless steel as a non-corroding material is more durable and resistant than many other alloys; there is almost always no need for an additional galvanically applied coating to achieve the desired durability. This protects the environment and resources.
This and our world of values are both an incentive and an obligation to live up to our responsibility in other areas as well.
As a major consumer of electrical energy, we switched to a provider of pure, certified green electricity in 2020, which enables us to reduce our CO₂ output by almost 400,000 kg annually. This year we also started to switch to hybrid and electric vehicles so that the company’s own charging stations supply the vehicle fleet now exclusively with electricity from renewable energy sources.
Most recently in April 2023, our energy supplier confirmed that our electricity comes 100% from renewable energies and is 100% climate neutral, including all upstream chains. Through climate protection projects of the green electricity label RenewablePLUS, all resulting CO₂ emissions are made climate-neutral.
The same applies to the company's natural gas consumption. This energy expenditure is also climate-neutral thanks to an ÖkoPLUS climate protection project from the hydropower sector in India.
Speaking of CO₂
As a company we have been having our CO₂ balance sheet assessed for just as long. The accounting is carried out via our partner ecocockpit based on the requirements for the quantitative determination and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with current regulations and standards. The annually renewed certificate is accompanied by a more detailed environmental performance report.
EcoVadis
Lederer received the silver medal from sustainability ranking provider EcoVadis for practicing sustainability. "Lederer GmbH from Ennepetal is in the top four percent of the companies assessed by EcoVadis in the wholesale trade of metal and plastic goods," is EcoVadis' overall assessment of Lederer.
