What’s new with the screw?

Torque rounds up the latest woodscrew innovations from the likes of Reisser, NE Fasteners, Kwantex and Ferdinand Gross…

Reisser

Reisser has added a new line of products, Cutter Mega Tubs, to its existing range.

Designed for high volume users, these larger quantity site tubs offer good value on all the most popular woodscrew sizes and come with two free Reisser Pozi Bits included with every tub.

Regular users of the existing range will also benefit from a transparent new look and streamlined style for 2019. The tubs remain a very popular alternative to standard screwboxes as they are waterproof, re-useable and easy to stack and store. Additionally, they are desirable for use in harsh conditions due to being chemically treated to make them shatter-resistant and frost proof.

Stuart Froud and Christopher Marsh, Company Directors of Plumbtech Supplies, are unanimous in their praise for the Tub range:

“We were impressed not only by the product, but also by the Reisser point-of-sale material and merchandiser stands recently installed in our showroom.”

NE Fasteners

West Midlands-based NE Fasteners’ broad product line-up includes premium screw range Turboqwik, a brand the firm has had in the portfolio for a number of years since it acquired it. Relaunched a couple of years ago, NE Fasteners is pushing the range out to distributors.

What makes Turboqwik so special? The screws feature six reaming nibs under the head, for perfect countersinking and no burrs. The unique SAWFIX design includes a coarse serrated thread for extra quick drilling. In addition, the extra sharp drilling point drives and requires no pre-drilling. Meanwhile the reinforced head boasts increased torque and reduces breakages.

Around 15 people work at NE Fasteners’ Cradley Heath HQ, which includes a 7,000 ft² warehouse and packaging division, from which it also operates online shop Screwshop.co.uk, available to end users and distributors alike. The firm can provide a wide range of finishes, including zinc, electro brass, black, chrome, satin chrome, bronze and nickel, with packaging options too. NE Fasteners also offers a wide range of kitting options, value add services and niche products.

Kwantex

Taiwan-headquartered deck screw manufacturer Kwantex has developed its latest woodscrew solution; the KTX-Jig Hidden Decking Screw System, suitable for both professional and DIY use on outdoor decking with the aim of giving the appearance of a fastener-free deck surface through side fastening.

The Hidden Screw System has an easy-to-operate jig which installs ‘invisible’ carbon or stainless steel M4.8 screws through clamping, with help of a double-sided screw guiding hole. The KTX-Jig has a fastening angle of 60 degrees, and the gap between decks can be fixed at either 2.5mm, 3.5mm or 5mm with current version (the new version is estimated to be launched in 2021, and the gap can be fixed at either 3mm, 4mm, 5mm or 6mm).

The KTX-Jig has two clip widths, size small (85-110mm) and medium (110-150mm) and can be used with various deck materials, such as ACQ Pine, Composite, PVC and IPE.

Besides side fastening, KTX-Hidden Decking Screws can also be driven from the top of the deck board directly without using the KTX-Jig.

The KTX-Jig has launched as a result of a number of R&D projects, designed to improve Kwantex’s performance in the wood-working industry.

Ferdinand Gross

Ferdinand Gross has a new and expanded range of chipboard screws. Chipboard screws are suitable for all indoor and outdoor wood constructions. During the development, Ferdinand Gross has considered the requirements of the customers, such as a special tip that prevents the splintering of the wood.

Depending on the application, customers can choose between galvanized or yellow chromated screws and stainless steel A2. The screws are available with partial thread or full thread in various lengths and diameters. In addition, different head shapes and drives are available.

The chipboard screws are supplied in a practical hinged box, from which the desired amount of screws can be easily removed.

All chipboard screws are available at Ferdinand Gross’ webshop and can be delivered at short notice.
