50-million-dollar expansion

We take you on a tour of Makita USA’s huge new distribution, service and training centre in Reno, Nevada...

On a substantial 50-acre site, Makita USA has opened a 600,000ft2 distribution, service and training centre. It’s Makita USA’s fifth centre of its type in North America and has been built in time for the power tool firm’s 50th anniversary in the USA.

Makita USA also operates significant warehouse and distribution facilities in Mt Prospect, Illinois, in Wilmer, Texas, La Miranda, California and in Dallas, Texas – the latter opening in 2017. Following its autumn 2020 opening, Makita USA’s operational ability now has a nationwide two-day coverage.

Thanks to Makita’s increasingly formidable outdoor power tool line, this new centre in Reno, Nevada includes a substantial outdoor space for hands-on training. The emphasis on education is backed by a detached Training Centre on-site, covering 28,000 ft2, offering tailored curriculum.

Demand & expansion

Joe Blackwell, vice president operations, says: “The new facility addresses increasing demand that we’re seeing across all product categories including construction, cordless outdoor power equipment, automotive and janitorial-sanitation. But even during construction in Reno we were still looking forward. The open space adjacent to the building is shovel-ready for planned future expansion.”
