Make the cut: Abrasives & Cutting Tools

Draper Tools, Master Abrasives and Okuma feature in our round-up…

Draper Tools

“Abrasives and cutting tools you can trust”

Abrasives and cuttings tools are a key component of the offering from Draper Tools. A highlight of the current range is the Draper Expert series of Metric Flat Wood Bits. This is a high-quality range that’s packed with handy features, such as a hex shank for quick change and three spurs for cleaner cut holes.

The bits also feature an impact strengthened shaft, so that they’re compatible with impact drivers too. Plus, they are double ground to improve waste removal, when compared with standard flat wood bits.

Made from high quality carbon steel that's correctly hardened and tempered, each bit’s cutting edge is expertly ground and finished for maximum performance on the job, helping to make light work of a range of drilling tasks. As part of the Draper Expert range, these well performing Flat Bits are well-suited to trade use.

Draper Tools has over a century of history and heritage, numerous award-winning products and five-star rated customer service.

Master Abrasives

New site brings abrasives, tool and machinery together

Master Abrasives has launched an updated website combining its three business areas of abrasives, tools and machinery and equipment into one user-friendly and modern site.

The marketing team has developed the site to highlight relevant information to customers, with a new menu structure which makes it easier to find products.

“Previously, we had the tool services and abrasives websites on separate domains, but combining them into one site means that users can find the information they’re looking for on our products and services easier,” says Marketing Manager Noora Kauppi. “We’ve defined the three areas we cater for which are abrasives, tools, and machinery and equipment; each is as important as the next so they all have their own prominent heading when you enter the site.”

The homepage retains its sleek and simple look, now with an updated image-based design to guide users through the site. New features include the three product areas and news pages, with new sections including ‘Videos’. All product brochures are now available online (in the ‘about’ section). On the Technical Applications Support page, visitors can learn about the applications engineering team and its leader, Ian Meredith, and how they work with customers to improve productivity. There’s also a specific page for Material Safety Data Sheets, making it easy for Master Abrasives distributors and end-users to work safely in line with REACH Regulations.

Other highlights include ‘Business Solutions’, split into Case Studies, Consignment Stock and Vending Solutions, providing details on the application and stock solutions Master Abrasives offers. The enhanced product section has been simplified for visitors, while case studies are also incorporated.

To support its export initiative, Master Abrasives website has sections available in other languages with specific pages so far for Mexico, Malaysia, Poland, Turkey and the United States. These pages direct the visitor to the Master Abrasives distributor for further local support and where appropriate have a list of products in the relevant language.

Okuma

Vertical machining centre

Okuma has launched its new BB-80V vertical machining centre in Europe.

This latest offering from the CNC machine tools and process optimisation specialist has been designed to meet the increasingly complex demands place on machines, whether cylinder heads, forming and cutting tools.

The largest vertical machining centre in the MB-V series will bring new machining options that benefit automotive suppliers and other industries with large workpieces.

The MB-80V is the largest vertical machining centre in the internationally successful MB-V series and is ideal for working on large workpieces. This is due partly to the working area with table dimensions of 1,600 x 800 millimetres and partly to the X-Y-Z travel of up to 1,600 x 1,050 x 600 millimetres. Despite these impressive dimensions, the machine requires a minimal footprint and can be quickly set up thanks to its easy handling.

When used, for example, for machining cubic parts, mould components or semiconductor components, the vertical machining centre benefits from its extreme repeat accuracy, excellent dynamics and high-performance milling. This ensures maximum quality, productivity and precision. Precision is further guaranteed through the proven rigid double column structure. In addition, the machine was designed in such a way that significant quantities of aluminium chips can also be removed. The already simple operation of the MB-80V with the Okuma OSP P300 controller can also be customised to meet individual customer requirements.

The MB-80V is available for immediate order. Shipping begins in August 2020. Okuma Europe GmbH is the Germany-based sales and service affiliate of Okuma Corporation, a world leader in CNC (computer numeric control) machine tools, founded in 1898 in Nagoya, Japan.
