Plug and play

Keep it simple > Simplicity of installation has many advantages, not just for the DIY plugs and fixings market, but also at the professional level...

JCP > Rosetts rise to the occasion

The specialist fixing division of Owlett-Jaton, JCP, offers a wide range of nylon and cavity fixings, which includes the Rosett plasterboard fixing. It is designed to be used for fixing items to a cavity wall and is capable of withstanding heavy loads, making it an obvious choice for domestic, industrial, and commercial applications.

Rosetts offer exceptional performance when it comes to securing heavy loads to plasterboard walls, such as cupboards, radiators, plasma TVs, heavy mirrors, pictures, shelving, tool racks, and notice boards, as examples. They can also be applied to other materials where a fixing into a cavity is required, including chipboard, concrete block, and hollow brick.

Benefits of the Rosett include the ease and speed of application, whilst offering outstanding reliability; little wonder why it is a firm favourite with professionals and DIY enthusiasts.

Rosett fixings are available in two types, distinguished by colour for ease: blue Rosetts can manage loads up to 38 kgs (single skin), whilst red Rosetts can manage loads up to 70kg (double skin). The cavity fixing is made from PA6 Nylon, with a 30 per cent glass fibre reinforced thread. There is a choice of head styles, too; pan head screws that offer a Torx drive, or hook.

Installation is quick and easy. Simply drill the appropriately sized hole, push the Rosett into the hole until the neck is flush with the surface, offer up the item to be fixed, apply the (supplied) screw through the item and engage with the thread at the far end of the Rosett, and tighten the screw. As the screw is tightened, it pulls the threaded end of the Rosett up, resulting in the Rosett fanning out on the back of the plasterboard, rather like a rosette, hence the name, spreading the load distribution over a wide surface area.

There is a range of sizes to choose from, which can be used in board depths ranging from 9 to 30mm. Rosetts are available boxed and in smaller quantities in both trade and retail bags, all of which are ideal for merchandising in-store.

JCP Construction Products prides itself on the expertise and technical support that it offers. The Rosett datasheet is available to download from the website and provides users with all the information required, including tensile and shear load data. There is also a Rosett installation video, available for download.

Tillex > Stellar performance

Tillex is a 100% Danish-produced range since 1954. The ultramodern competitive company specialises in the manufacture and sale of fastenings, aimed to deliver the best products at the best price without compromising on quality.

Stella plugs provide a quick and easy solution for fixing heavy objects in plasterboards, chipboards, fibreboards and other boards used in cavity walls. It can be used to fix shelves, radiators, cupboards and light fittings in all types of boards used in cavity walls. Inside the tip of the Tillex Stella plug is a metal nut. When the screw engages the nut, the plug is contracted to form a star shaped knot behind the cavity.

BENEFITS

  • Made of Recycled nylon (PA6) halogen-free and can withstand temperatures from –40ºC to +80ºC. The screws are 4.8 steel and zinc-plated to a minimum 5 microns.
  • High load capacity.
  • Easy fixing – needs no special tools.
  • Equally effective for insulated cavities.
  • Will not damage the plasterboard.
  • Encapsulated metal nut for high strength.
  • The plug is removable.
  • Only to be fixed by screwdriver with torque control or by hand.

RED Stella plug is suitable for single layer plasterboard.

Black Stella plug is suitable for double layer plasterboard.

SWIP PLUG for 1- & 2-layers plasterboard >

Thanks to expansion angle against the inner walls of the hole, Swip plug can withstand a higher long-term load better than a regular plug.

BENEFITS

  • Drywall anchor for use in 1 & 2 layer plasterboard and other sheet structures.
  • Special rotation fins prevent the plug from rotating in the drill hole.
  • The collar prevents plug from disappearing into the hole.
  • Adapted for wood, self-tapping and chipboard screws.
  • Load capacity, kN (1kN ≈ 100 kg).

fischer hooks new range

2021 product innovations from the fischer stable include its new EasyHook range, to hang or attach furnishing elements. The wide range of products includes round, eye or angle hooks that can be placed onto countersunk screws as an adapter. The product is quickly and easily installed directly in wood or any other conventional construction material together with the fischer DuoPower plug.

The new plastic hook is a particularly flexible and secure method of hanging or attaching things around the home. The wide range of products allows shelves, lamps, pictures, mirrors, hanging baskets, washing lines, signs and much more to be fastened to walls or ceilings. The new EasyHook range is also ideal for installing protective screens around checkout areas, for instance.

With its glass-fibre reinforced plastic, the hooks can carry heavy loads of up to 80 kg per fastening point depending on the substrate. This provides a secure hold even on heavy furnishings such as floating shelves. The screw provides the EasyHook with additional stability by running along its entire shaft. Unlike conventional screw hooks with a small diameter, the plastic hook does not bend and retains its shape and full load-bearing capacity.

The EasyHook range transforms screws into round, eye or angle hooks and is simple and easy to install. The screw is pushed through the EasyHook and inserted with a screwdriv-er or cordless screwdriver. The hook should not be held at this point. The ideal screw guidance makes it easier to use. By contrast, conventional screw hooks are installed with pliers, which is painstaking and can cause the user to easily slip and scratch the hook.

The EasyHook can be used in any conventional construction material. The plastic hooks can be installed with the DuoPower plug which independently activates the suitable function in solid, hollow and panel construction materials by expanding, folding or knotting. The accompanying chipboard screw allows the hook to be used directly in wood without a plug and with no need for any predrilling. The hooks can also be quickly and easily dismantled using a screwdriver or cordless screwdriver.

Additional technical ingenuities increase the level of flexibility and ease of use. The EasyHook loosens at its predetermined breaking point with a counter-clockwise rotation, allowing it to be readjusted and tightened. The advantages compared to alternative solutions are evident, as conventional screw hooks can be pointing in the wrong direction after installation. When DIYers align them vertically, they still often do not end up sitting flush with the anchor substrate. Because of the solid disc at the end, referred to as a shoulder, they cannot be screwed in any further nor can they be positioned correctly. The EasyHook on the other hand can be rotated, adjusted and fastened due to its predetermined breaking point, meaning it always sits flush with the surface.

When it comes to conventional screw hooks, the shoulder also determines the distance to the wall and ceiling. This is not the case with the EasyHook, which can be placed at different depths within the construction material thanks to its various screw-in depths and long shaft, allowing variable wall and ceiling distances. This allows all kinds of furnishing and living accessories to be hung with the respective hook opening. The shaft of the round and eye hook can simply be broken off by hand when being installed in wood. Another trick to remove the front part: Simply insert the screw tip into the cone and press down.

The EasyHook is also easy on the eye. A special notch in the plastic ensures that the screw head ends flush with the outer surface of the hook, while a cover ring on the round and eye hooks provide a clean finish for the drill hole, contributing to a visually appealing design. An additional cover cap is available for the round and eye hooks which can easily be placed on the screw head.
