LED Lighting
Hafren Security Fasteners has changed all of its internal and external lighting to LED bulbs which has reduced its energy usage by 30% annually.
Electric Vehicles
Hafren is committed to reducing its environmental impact by replacing its fleet with EVs and has recently received another full electric vehicle.
Solar PV
The business installed a solar PV (photovoltaic) system to the roof of its offices last year meaning it is now able to work ‘off grid’ a lot of the time with excess energy being exported back to the grid.
Packaging – incoming
The company reuses everything that it can and the rest of its incoming cardboard and plastic packaging is crushed/baled on site and sent for recycling.
Packaging – outgoing
Hafren has switched to more sustainable packaging and is now using boxes made from recycled material and that are 100% recyclable again… you never know where you’ll see them next!
Fastener Material
Hafren Fasteners is a big fan of stainless steel, with the majority of its fastener products being stocked in A2 Stainless steel. As a material stainless steel has many environmental benefits; stainless steel is durable, resistant to corrosion, and recyclable. Studies show that the total cost of stainless steel can be 30-40% lower than competing materials due to reduced repair, maintenance, and replacement costs throughout product life cycle. The reduced need for repair and replacement of fasteners also results in lower environmental impact in terms of raw material and energy use.
Green Deliveries
Hafren has partnered with DPD for its domestic delivery freight which is the UK’s most sustainable delivery service. DPDgroup is committed to achieving its net-zero commitment by 2040 with Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validation.
European Hub
A few months ago, Hafren opened its new European Hub where it now stocks its full range of anti-theft screws, nuts and bolts a lot closer to its European clients meaning the product has less travelling and shorter distances to go from factory to application.
Looking Ahead
Hafren says: “We are considering increasing the solar PV system and are evaluating battery storage whereby we’ll be able to store excess energy produced by our solar PV system to use during the colder winter months when there’s less hours of sunshine and a need to fire up the electric boilers.
“We are currently working with some external auditors to establish what else we can do to further reduce our footprint and are looking at carbon offsetting schemes.
