Alongside maintaining a sharp focus on developing sustainable vehicle technologies, automotive manufacturers are looking beyond their products, by assessing the environmental impact of their facilities and production processes.
As manufacturers become increasingly aware of the industry’s contribution to harmful emissions, 2022 has come to represent somewhat of a turning point for many businesses, as more and more embrace eco-friendly initiatives. Adapting or even revolutionising production processes is proving to be a significant challenge for many businesses, as not only are governments across the globe implementing stringent demands on industry sustainability, but increasing amounts of customers are partnering only with those with tangible sustainability roadmaps.
Optimas Solutions has also committed to a greener future for the industry. For over 90 years Optimas' Droitwich facility has manufactured fasteners through cold-forming, a sustainable and reproducible production process which forms a part in its near-net state, with 0% excess material sent to landfill. Before a part is manufactured, any additive waste produced by prototyping is also recycled.
With eco-friendly aspirations reaching beyond their manufacturing practices, all Optimas’ UK facilities are powered by renewable energy, equating to 22% of their global energy consumption. Building upon the foundation of their ISO 14001 accreditation, Optimas have developed a sustainability roadmap for its 36 facilities across eight countries, with a target of 70% powered by renewables by the end of 2025.
