GESIPA’S BIRDIE PACKS A PUNCH
Unveiled at GESIPA’s Open House event at its headquarters in Mörfelden – Walldorf and then showcased to a wider audience at Cologne’s Hardware Fair, EISENWARENMESSE, the new Birdie cordless riveting tool proves that it’s not the size that counts, it’s the technology that's packed into it…
GESIPA has poured its expertise in cordless riveting tools into what it describes as the smallest and lightest cordless riveting tool in its performance class.
The new Birdie® weighs just 900 g (without battery) with enhanced ergonomics – including a balanced centre of gravity and comfortable handles – so engineers can work longer without getting tired.
What’s more, the tool covers a large working range: with a setting force of 10 kN and a tool stroke of 25 mm, it makes light work of setting blind rivets with a diameter of up to 5 mm in all materials (and aluminium rivets with a diameter up to 6 mm).
"Visitors to GESIPA’s Open Day were among the first to see the new Birdie tool in person."
GETTING STARTED
Once everything is set up, you can commence riveting. Insert the rivet and gently tap the trigger button: the 100% ball-bearing-mounted components in the drive unit and the wear-free BLDC motor ensure that everything is “riveted down” in no time – no need to nail anything down here. And, if the light’s a bit dim in the workshop, that’s no problem either, as the integrated light ring precisely illuminates the nosepiece and the riveting point.
The Birdie’s non-slip stand ensures that users can quickly place the tool down without it falling over.
If you need to keep your hands free while working, or if you want to keep the Birdie safe from covetous colleagues, you can simply hang the tool on a balancer using a standard karabiner.
The advanced battery technology is worth dwelling on: Power recuperation allows the Birdie to work for longer because every bit of energy is used. Just like in a car, braking energy is fed into the battery, which becomes available for further riveting. If the battery does empty, the control system signals the need to recharge both visually and acoustically.
When the user has been working for a long time, they will naturally accumulate a lot of mandrel bodies. These are collected in the spent mandrel container, which is transparent so you can see at a glance when it’s time to empty it.
The Birdie is also very easy to care for: you can clean and replace the jaws, and change the nosepiece, in no time at all, without the need for tools. And colour-coded nosepieces mean that matching the blind rivet used is child’s play.
"The brand new Birdie landed in Cologne’s Eisenwarenmesse last month."
SIMPLICITY & QUALITY
During the tool’s development, attention was paid to maximum practicability – everything should be as simple as possible while also being the highest quality.
To give users the greatest possible freedom, while conserving resources and saving money, the Birdie® uses the tried-and-tested CAS (Cordless Alliance System) battery. With more than 30 manufacturers and more than 300 tools from various trades, the alliance means that multiple tools can be operated extremely easily with the same battery.
The Birdie comes in a practical linkable L-BOXX or in a smart sales box, with variable equipment – with one or two batteries, or no battery at all, and with or without charger. The GESIPA® L-BOXX is of course bright blue, as ever, so it’s easy to see at a glance where the riveting tool is.
Further accessories are available, including custom nosepieces and retaining nosepieces.
