THE POWER OF PLUGS
Using the wrong fixings with plasterboard, insulation and cavity constructions can have dramatic effects, we look at some of the specialist products designed for this category.
Owlett-Jaton > A Little Twist from JCP Fixings
JCP, the specialist fixing division of Owlett-Jaton, offers a wide range of nylon and cavity fixings, which includes the leading Rosett plasterboard fixing. Designed to fix items to a cavity wall and capable of withstanding heavy loads, it offers exceptional performance.
Rosett fixings are available in two types, and easily distinguished by colour: blue Rosetts can manage loads up to 38Kg (single skin), while red Rosetts can manage loads up to 70Kg (double skin). There is a choice of head styles, too; a T25 Torx drive pan head screw made of grade 5.8 steel with a bright zinc plated finish, offers resistance to corrosion, or a hook design made from the same material, and with the same finish. The cavity fixing is made from PA6 Nylon, with a 30% glass fibre reinforced thread, and can withstand temperatures between -40° to +80°C.
Typically used in plasterboard, the Rosett’s versatility means that it is just as capable in other materials where a fixing into a cavity is required, including fibreboard, chipboard, concrete block, and hollow brick, making it the obvious choice for domestic, industrial, and commercial applications.
Offering outstanding reliability, speed, and ease, the Rosett is understandably a firm favourite with professionals and DIY enthusiasts. Application examples include tool racks, notice boards, shelving, cupboards, radiators, wall-mounted TVs, heavy mirrors, and pictures.
JCP prides itself on the expertise and technical support that they offer. The Rosett datasheet is available to download from their website, providing users with all the information required, including tensile and shear load data. There is also a Rosett installation video, available for download.
pgb-Europe > SMART Insulation plugs
Thermo SMART insulation plugs from pgb-Europe are the perfect combination of plug and expansion nail in one handy product. The plastic insulation plug prevents thermal bridges and is ideal for use in hollow and solid building materials.
The insulation fixings are ETA assessed with high load-bearing capacity for a wide range of building materials. The plugs are made entirely of polypropylene for low temperature transmission and a longer life expectancy.
The SMART insulation fixings are suitable for securing thermal insulation on almost all building materials, with different categories available to suit the construction materials. The plugs are approved for use in concrete – category A, solid masonry category B, hollow or perforated bricks category C, lightweight concrete category D, and finally category E for aerated concrete.
For installation and application, the insulation fixings can be combined with the extra 90mm insulation disc (IWP 90) or the extra 140mm insulation disc (IWP 140), making them ideal for the installation of soft insulation in construction.
